Animations from the 2019 M7.1 Ridgecrest Earthquake
The videos bellow show the ground velocities and ground displacements in urban Los Angeles during the strong motion part of the M7.1 2019 Ridgecrest earthquake.
We consider ground-level stations from the following three sources: 1) the Community Seismic Network (CSN); 2) the Southern California Seismic Network (SCSN); and 3) the California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (CSMIP). The CSN provided data from 350 stations, and SCSN and CSMIP provided about 200 additional stations in our region of interest.
Displacements
The movies display a good picture of the waves propagating in the basin. The displacements are amplified (x20000) so that they are visible. The video is real-time. The traces of the points are marked with grey.

Velocities:
The velocity vector direction is shown by the arrows.
Displacements:
The displacements are amplified so that they are visible - the displacement trace is shown in grey.
